Solly Karivelil
Title: Safety & Licensing Analyst
Company: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited

Solly Karivelil is a Safety and Licensing Analyst with Regulatory Affairs at AECL. In this capacity she plays a significant role on a daily basis to ensure that the mandate of the Regulatory Affairs is carried out effectively in its daily operations. As part of this mission, she acts as a regulatory interface and provides licensing support to Research and Technology Operations at Chalk River Laboratories.

What Solly loves most about her job is educating the staff at various levels of the organization on matters related to licensing regulations, and interpreting and rolling-out new and revised licensing requirement documents and procedures across AECL. It is most rewarding to see the improvements made to licensing documentation and she takes great pride in her contributions towards this achievement. Solly's Science and Teaching degrees and the previous teaching experience have helped her reach the position she is in today.

Solly credits her Mom as well as her University Professor, for influencing her career choices. She enjoys her role at AECL as she is in a position to help a wide spectrum of staff. It gives her a huge sense of personal satisfaction everyday at work. Her advice to today's youth is to 'follow your dreams and work hard to achieve them.'

Solly joined WiN after being inspired by a co-worker, who was also a WiN member.  She is pleased with her decision to join as she enjoys being in the company of others from the same industry. Solly acknowledges that the WiN website has helped her in setting and pursuing her personal and career goals.

When Solly is not at work she enjoys reading, swimming and cooking up delicacies in the kitchen. She is married with two children and thus a busy mom at home. Whenever she gets any leisure time, she loves watching movies.
