Sidra Abid
Title: Assistant Technical Engineer
Company: Ontario Power Generation

Sidra Abid works as an Assistant Technical Engineer at Ontario Power Generation. Sidra enjoys that her role as a system engineer allows her to take on a variety of tasks where she assumes a large amount of responsibility. Her most rewarding project to date had her taking on the technical challenges of the “Vault Vapour Recovery” system.
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering program, Sidra continues to benefit from the technical challenges that she solves as it gives her a chance to learn and makes her feel very empowered as a female engineer. Her advice to today’s youth is to “try and try again and don’t take no for an answer” she also advises today’s youth to "challenge themselves to avoid becoming stagnant."

Sidra became involved with WiN because she wanted the chance to help promote women in engineering and science-based careers.  Sidra would like to thank the female executives of WiN for supporting her career goals and acting as role models for all WiN members. Sidra also devotes some of her time to ‘Engineers without Borders’ as part of the Toronto Professional Chapter.  When she is not at work she enjoys teaching sciences and math as well as spending time in mentorship roles within her community.
