Shelley Rolland

Shelley Rolland
Title: Community Affairs Officer
Company: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited

Shelley works as a Community Affairs Officer at AECL’s Chalk River Laboratories. In this role, she is responsible for interacting with local stakeholders and ensuring a positive relationship exists between the community and the Chalk River Laboratories.

What Shelley loves most about her job is the opportunity to meet new people while learning about the many interesting facets concerning the operations that occur at her work site. Having worked previously in university administration and the not-for-profit sector, Shelley is new to the nuclear industry. She says that she is “very proud to have jumped feet first into a new industry that is very technical. Every day I am learning more about nuclear energy and the amazing ways in which it enhances our lives.”

In her role, Shelley enjoys potential for growth and new challenges. She believes that it is the people she meets and interacts with daily that make her job so satisfying.

Shelley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in human rights and political science from St. Thomas University in Fredericton and has gone on to complete many leadership courses, namely one called “Leadership Fredericton”.

The inspiration to get involved with WiN came from the women involved in Shelley’s local branch. She says “I was impressed with the women I met at a local branch meeting. I knew right away that WiN would be an opportunity to meet colleagues both on site and within the industry. I also knew that WiN would be an amazing opportunity for networking!”
