Lee Abbott
Title: Office Manager, Account Manager & Recruiter
Company: Ian Martin Limited
Company: Ian Martin Limited
Six years ago, Lee began her career at the recruiting firm, Ian Martin Limited, as a receptionist. Since then her role has expanded to include Office Manager, Account Manager and Recruiter. She is responsible for many tasks—anything from managing office activities to finding and hiring well-suited candidates for several companies. Lee says her position is dynamic—with new activities popping up each day. This enables her to have high job satisfaction in many areas. No matter what “hat” she is wearing on any given day, Lee is always on the go. When Lee pursued her three-year degree in Business Administration at Conestoga College in Waterloo, Ontario she met a professor that motivated her in an unconventional way. She found this instructor to be brash and a cut-throat— characteristics that did not suit Lee. His approach to business was the opposite of how she wanted to present herself in the workplace. She made a conscious decision to find success in the business world by being open and friendly. Lee also found encouragement from her father who always said that she could do anything she wanted. Today, she uses her father’s advice when she is helping others to find a suitable career path. Lee’s education didn’t end when she finished her degree. It continues on the job each day. She constantly has the opportunity be educated about different employment positions. She is always meeting new people and developing relationships. She is grateful that her job has given her the chance to appreciate other areas of expertise within the nuclear industry. Before Lee joined WiN, her experiences with other organizations had always left her feeling unfulfilled. But, Lee is excited to be a part of WiN. Since becoming a WiN member, she has been introduced to other women in the nuclear industry. It has also given her the opportunity to become more involved within the industry that she recruits for. With this in mind, Lee offers her advice, “to be successful on your own terms and to do it your way.”
