Laura Machan
Title: Search Consultant
Company: Ian Martin Ltd.

Laura has worked as a Search Consultant with Ian Martin Ltd for the past 5 years. In this role, she is responsible for helping find jobs for people and people for jobs in the technical and engineering fields.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a certificate in Human Resource Management, both from the University of Toronto. Before starting at Ian Martin, she worked for ComFact Corp, which is an organization that sends skilled trade workers to marine and construction projects in the United States and overseas. During her career Laura has looked to her female clients for motivation. They have provided a great deal of inspiration and influence as women in leadership roles in roles both professionally and within the community.

Laura’s position is all about helping people find their career fit. She takes pleasure in knowing that she has helped someone find their place in the workforce. She believes that the best part of her job is when she receives e-mails and letters from people who have taken time out of their day to tell her that they still love the job that she helped them find. In Laura’s opinion it does not get any better than that.

Laura first began her involved with WiN when she recognized the tremendous women who were already involved. Attending the WiN conferences has allowed her to meet people who excel in their field and who are willing to talk about their challenges and successes. Thanks to WiN, Laura has learned a great deal about the inner workings of the nuclear industry. Because of this new knowledge, she feels that she is better able to relate to her clients as she has a much clearer understanding of the types of people that would be suitable for a particular role. In addition to this, Laura enjoys the fantastic conversations with the intelligent and articulate women of WiN.
