Women in Nuclear - WiN Canada

For almost 20 years, Janet has been a part of the team at the Bruce site.  In her current position, she is the Personal Assistant to the Chief Nuclear Officer. She is responsible for providing confidential administrative support.

Graduating from Westervelt Business School in London, Ontario, Janet received a Medical Office Assistant diploma and began working in a small medical office in Waterloo, Ontario. She quickly realized the great degree of responsibility she was given reflected the importance of support required by management. Since then, Janet has encountered many people who have guided her towards a better understanding of her profession. She is often met with unique problems and situations and she has found that other personal assistants and managers have offered great support and encouragement when dealing with these issues. Because of this supportive atmosphere, she is able return the favour and act as a mentor to her co-workers.

Working as a Personal Assistant, Janet is constantly facing new and different challenges. She feels gratified when she is able to assist others to achieve individual and team success. Janet has worked on various projects and initiatives on site, but her most rewarding success was supporting the company Vice President during the transition from Ontario Power Generation to Bruce Power. It was challenging yet exciting for Janet to go through the process of change and to be a part of the new development.

Her involvement with WiN was inspired by Executive Director, Cheryl Cottrill. Janet had always held the impression that being a member of WiN meant that you had to work in the technical field, however after a moving address by Cheryl, Janet was inspired by the growth and development of WiN and was encouraged to join. Since being a member of the WiN team she has found an opportunity to learn more about the nuclear industry as well as to meet other women who work throughout the field. Most importantly, she has discovered that the people in administrative roles are welcomed into the organization and have much to contribute to WiN’s success.
