Women of WiN
Christine Racicot
Company: Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL)
Christine is a program specialist for the nuclear criticality safety program with Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL). In this role she works to establish new program documentation and processes.
Christine enjoys the key role she plays in the development of training programs and requirements. One of her most rewarding projects to date was updating the criticality safety training material and finding videos to attach to that material. Christine appreciates that people learn in different ways and believes that the addition of videos to the training material will help visual learners.
While Christine has completed a Bachelor of Arts and Science in chemical engineering from the University of Ottawa, her true interest in the sciences began in the 8th grade where she had a science teacher who greatly influenced her chosen careen path.
Christine feels a great amount of pride in working for AECL and sees that reflected back to her when she tells others where she works and sees how proud they are of her. Christine believes it is important to set goals but to not “be afraid to change course along the way because it’s not only the destination but the journey that is our life.”
Christine was inspired to become involved with WiN for the motivation and support from other women in the nuclear industry as well as for the opportunity to be involved within her community and to help show young girls science and math opportunities. WiN has helped her in setting and pursuing her personal and career goals because it has shown her that “there are possibilities everywhere in the nuclear field for women.”
