Women of WiN
Brenda McKee
Company: NB Power
As an employee of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, Brenda McKee works as a Technical Specialist in the Reactor Physics Group. Brenda enjoys the people she works with, the variety of her work and the limitless opportunities for new learning. Brenda’s department provides vital information that enables the Control Room and Fuel Handling staff to fuel the reactor as safely and efficiently as possible. She is responsible for inputting technical data for fuel production runs, zone response and fuel bundle placement in the core, as well as organizing daily work routines. Along with her Business and Office Technology Diploma from New Brunswick Community College, she has completed many training programs at Point Lepreau. She regards her most rewarding project as learning to do the Reactor Physics Production Simulation, as well as assisting in the fuel defect analysis.
Brenda’s inspiration to pursue further education and a position in the nuclear industry comes from her family. The birth of her son motivated her to show him that receiving an education is important and helps a person grow and develop, as well as providing a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Brenda’s desire to join WiN came from the organization’s commitment to highlight how women add value to the workplace. She believes men and women can work together equally and WiN is establishing the idea of incorporating the best of both worlds. There is a wonderful support system with WiN and it empowers women to know you are not alone. WiN is also a great avenue for networking and sharing knowledge of information.
When Brenda gets up in the morning, she loves to go to work. There is no place else she would want to be!
