Ann Perry
Company: NB Power
Working as a Chemical Maintainer at NB Power, Ann Perry is directly involved with the sampling, monitoring and analysis of various process systems. Ann enjoys her current position as it encompasses a variety of tasks that need to be completed each day. Some of Ann’s favourite tasks are the sampling and operating of the water treatment plant as well as troubleshooting on different problems that arise in her department.
Just prior to the PLGS refurbishment Ann initiated, led and organized the clean-up to the refurbishment projects. This was a station wide effort which involved interfacing with various workgroups such as maintenance, facilities, supply, scheduling and management. The team collaborated on cleaning up different areas which needed attention before going into the outage. Ann admits this was her most rewarding project to date.
Ann’s formal background started at New Brunswick Community College taking Chemical Technology. Ann also takes every opportunity at work to increase her knowledge and learning through the various systems and equipment training that the Chemistry Department provides. She recognizes her family as the strong support group that helped her get to where she is today.
Ann’s message to today’s youth is “Knowledge is ‘Power.’ Think big and dream large and to never give up.” In her role at NB Power, Ann is always on the lookout to find ways of improving safety for work group procedures which gives her a sense of personal satisfaction.
She became a member of WiN to encourage younger women to take the same career path. Ann enjoys being a member of WiN as it allows her to receive support and the opportunity to share ideas that may help today’s youth.
When she is not at work, Ann enjoys music, clogging and attending Zumba class at the local gym. But she admits her most enjoyable activity is taking on the role of a “Hockey Mom.”
