Call for Papers - 14th WiN-Canada Annual Conference

July 6, 2017

We are pleased to invite you to submit an application to present at our 14th WiN-Canada Annual Conference on October 23rd, 2017 at Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata, Ontario

Women in Nuclear (WiN) is an organization with the strategic goal of enhancing public awareness and credibility of the nuclear industry and on building relationships and strategic partnerships within the nuclear and energy sector. Research shows that women are less supportive than men of the nuclear industry and that they are more likely to trust other women when learning about nuclear (1). Given this, it is important for WiN members to become better informed and be able to articulate factual messages about the nuclear industry.

This year’s talks will be 15 minutes (maximum, subject to change) and presented to the entire conference in a “TED talk” style presentation. The committee is looking for dynamic, engaging talks that feature “ideas worth spreading”. The focus of the talks can showcase the nuclear industry from power generation, food supply, research, and healthcare to where is nuclear going and women in STEM.

To have your presentation considered, please submit an abstract (maximum 300 words, clearly identifying your “idea worth spreading”, supported by three key messages) by the deadline of Friday, July 21, 2017. ATTN: Call for Presentations Committee Chair, WiN-EO at Joint-authored papers should be submitted by the author planning to present. Contact information to be included on your abstract.

A selection committee of WiN-Canada members will provide feedback on the acceptance of papers (expected 3-4) by Monday, August 14, 2017. Any changes for use in the program must be made by Monday, September 4, 2017.

Each presentation should cover the chosen topic in a broad and non-company-specific format. Presentations should provide the audience with an understanding of the topic and why it is an “idea worth spreading”, as well as highlighting the key message for listeners (should be outlined in the abstract).

If chosen, you will be required to submit a more in-depth supplementary paper supporting your presentation. Papers will be posted on the WiN-Canada website after the Conference.

Important Dates:

Abstract Deadline: Friday, July 21, 2017

Notification of accepted papers: Monday, August 14, 2017

Changes to abstract for program:  Monday, September 4, 2017

Deadline for PowerPoint submission: Monday, October 16, 2017
