2011 WiN-Canada Leadership Award
2011 WiN-Canada Leadership Award
September 27, 2011
This year’s WiN-Canada award was presented at the 8th Annual WiN-Canada conference on September 22, 2011. The award is given to a member or members who have made an outstanding leadership contribution in the success of WiN-Canada.
This year two very dedicated and inspiring members, received the award in recognition of their devotion to WiN-Canada.
The first award was given to Janet Donegan of Ontario Power Generation, who just recently gave up her position on the board. Janet sat on the organizing committee for the 2006 WiN-Global conference, sat on the board from 2005 to 2011 and led the WiN-Durham chapter. Janet was described by Executive Director, Cheryl Cottrill as the “steady-eddy” on the board, always chipping in when needed. Cheryl added, “I have very much enjoyed working with Janet and appreciated that her heart was always in the right place when it came to WiN. She simply worked diligently on WiN because she believed in it and did a great job leading WiN-Durham while she was chair.”
The second award was presented to Rumina Velshi, who has now retired from Ontario Power Generation and from the WiN-Canada Board. Rumina also sat on the organizing committee for the 2006 WiN-Global conference and sat on the board from 2005-2011 as the Treasurer. Rumina was described by Cheryl as the “voice of reason” on the board. Cheryl stated, “Her ability to listen to all sides of an argument and then come up with a compromise that satisfied everyone is something that I both admire and work to emulate. Rumina played a large leadership role in the setting up of WiN-Canada and helping WiN garner support from the industry.”
The WiN award is selected by the Executive Director and is presented each year at the WiN-Canada conference.
