Day 2 - GIRLS Science Camp GEMS 2010

July 13, 2010

Tuesday was all about fabulous fitness and food frenzy. We talked a lot about how our body works and learned how to take our heart rate in different circumstances. We did a little yoga, an obstacle course, some Wii boxing, visited a resting station and rode a stationary bike to see how each of these different activities affected our heart rate and then learned about graphing so we could chart our progress.

We also tested our taste thresholds for sweetness and saltiness using some sugar, water and salt in an experiment. Check out the picture gallery below to see some of those sour faces.

We did a little spitting, but please don’t tell our Moms.  We experimented to analyse our saliva to determine how we digest starch into sugars.

We also did the old coke and methos experiment and make quite an explosion.

We finished off our day by making pom-pom animals.

Another fabulous day at Camp GEMS.
