Inspiring WiN members...

I want to dedicate this blog post to WiN members who inspire me each and every day. I have a couple of stories to share with you that I believe truly speaks to the hearts and minds of our membership in WiN.

Back in May I was participating in the Skills Canada-Ontario competition and Young Women’s Conference in Waterloo. Gail Smyth, the Executive Director of Skills Canada-Ontario put out a plea to invitees at a breakfast to help sponsor seven children who required a little financial help to attend this year’s Skills Canada Camps. The one-week camp takes place across the province allowing young people in grades 7 and 8 to explore the skilled trades and technologies. I quickly sent an email out to the dedicated WiN members from the skilled trades whom I call on to mentor at all Skills Canada-Ontario events and asked if they would consider collectively sponsoring a child to attend camp this summer. Within a few days we had five children sponsored from the generosity of our members. A very proud moment for WiN!

WiN members also stepped up when presented with the opportunity to sell wristbands for Fukushima, Japan. WiN members have raised $4,375.00 selling wristbands to our fellow employees at various companies across Ontario. The initiative was started by employees at Ontario Power Generation and quickly spread to the Power Worker’s Union and Women in Nuclear. A few days ago I heard that over $45,000 has been raised for the cause, which will benefit a community project in the Japanese rebuilding effort. If you would like to purchase a wristband please contact the chair of your local chapter.

These are just a couple of examples of the great leadership WiN members are providing across the industry.

Well done members! Keep up the great work. You make me very proud!
